Chris J.
Hi there! We are trying to implement the hot-desking feature in our current setup. E.g. each phone (all SNOM 300), gets its own registration and users can "hot-swap" between phones via *70, using their own registration. Everything works fine, a superb and very usable feature, but: We tested the following: Phone is registered under 100. First user with registration 11 activates hot-desking on that phone, which means, user 11 is "Hot Desking at" 100. (see "User Redirection Settings") Second user with registration 12 activates hot-desking on the same phone, but instead of putting user 12 "Hot Desking at" 100, user 12 is now "Hot Desking at" 11. This leads to the following: The second user (12) is not reachable at all - upon calling him the mailbox answers. If the first user (11) "hot-swaps" to another phone (e.g. 101), the second user would "move" as well. We don't want neither to happen, so that two users can share one phone using Hot Desking. Is there a way to implement that? Are we missing something? Could this be a "request for feature"? We would love to use Hot Desking, but the problem above prevents us from "going live". Thanks in advance, Chris
Chris J.
Does anyone have an idea? Is anyone able to replicate the problem?!
Vodia PBX
Let me try to restate the question. So you want to swap the extensions?
Chris J.
Hi there! Thanks for your response. We don't want to swap extensions, we just want to enable two users to use hot-desking (which is essentially redirection) on one and the same phone. E.g. user with extension 11 hot-desking at extension 100 (phone) and user with extension 12 hot-desking at extension 100. Greetings, Chris

Well, that will clearly have the consequence that outbound calls will have to use one of the identities. Did you try this setup from the web interface? IMHO that should work already. Regarding *70 I agree it could be a problem. Maybe we have to split it up or change the IVR to explicitly log in or out.

Setting the redirection using the web site works like a charm, but this is unfortunately not the feature we are looking for. The simplicity of *70 is great, we find it extremely usable, _if_ this issue could be resolved. I agree on the conflict regarding outbound calls and don't see an apparent solution, as far as we are concerned, it doesn't really matter which identity is being used. Can you come up with a solution? Logging out the other identity just doesn't seem right to us... But thanks for checking!!

IMHO it makes sense in most cases, but we can make it possible to turn this off. But we can add a global setting that suppresses this... The new setting will have the name "multiple_hot_destking" (default is false) and it will be included in 3.0.0.2976.
Chris J.
Hi there! We upgraded a couple of weeks ago to 3.0.0.2998, but have yet to find the new feature of multiple hot desking!? Only one user can hot desk at one phone at a time. Where do we find the global switch? Help would be greatly appreciated! Thx, Chris
Vodia PBX
Where do we find the global switch? It is a global setting with the name "multiple_hot_destking" (see http://wiki.pbxnsip.com/index.php/Global_Configuration_File), not directly available through the web ínterface.
