Vodia PBX Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 This time it's me starting a topic. Did anybody try the Android 2.3 with the snom ONE. Android 2.3 has a new SIP support, and "in theory" it should work fine. However it would be interesting to hear if anybody ever tried that out. Quote
mattlandis Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 well, congratulations on starting a topic. ;-) we have a couple androids at the office and I will check in the morning. didn't realize that sip client built in. Quote
Vodia PBX Posted October 20, 2011 Author Report Posted October 20, 2011 Maybe wait for Android 4.0? Not sure how much will change between the versions. Quote
vichy Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 I was able to get it to work for outbound calls (didnt try inbound), however I dont use it much. If memory serves there is no G729 codec support on the android and the only other codec we use is g711 so it doesnt work that well unless the device is connected to wifi. For anyone interested, this is only applicable to Android 2.3 and above (Gingerbread). Settings->Call->Use Internet Calling Cheers Quote
Vodia PBX Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 So finally I was able to try it out. I installed sipdroid (which was not installed yet), and essentially followed the setup for sipdroid. It was working within a minute. The biggest problem was telling the device to keep the WiFi connection alive, so that it would be possible to call the device even after the display has been turned off. So now I have a WiFi SIP phone for essentially 130 USD, and it even has a camera for scanning bar codes (apps make it happen). Quote

Were you able to get sipdroid working from 'outside' the SnomOne's network? Mine works fine within the network itself, but once I'm on another WiFi network or over the cellular network, it fails to register. (Yes, I have opened the IP access restrictions to ensure the new IP is permitted). Quote
Vodia PBX Posted February 3, 2012 Author Report Posted February 3, 2012 I only tried from home over the Internet. That was no problem. Maybe inside the office will be a problem if the firewall has problems with hairpinning. A split-brain DNS setup could solve that problem. Quote
Vodia PBX Posted February 8, 2012 Author Report Posted February 8, 2012 Update: I recommend that you turn G.722 off on the Android. This was causing a major "call quality" problem on my side... Quote
