Version 2011-4.5.0.1005 Alpha Monocerotids is here

pbx support

Recommended Posts

We have been working on adding some new features, bit more flexible web interface etc over the last year along with the bug fix releases. This new version contains all the bug fixes that were part of 2011-4.3.0.5020 release that came out couple of weeks ago.

It has been tested on limited installations so far and we want to extend it to all of our forum users. Some of you might have used this version already under v5 version numbers(2011-5.0.0.10xx). We just renamed the version number to be 4.5.0.10xx. That's all.

One of the main new features is the updated cell phone integration. Now, the cell phone can truly act as an extension of the PBX with new menu options, ability to transfer the call on the cell phone to another extension (with a ## option), bridge/conference calls, dial another number, stay connected to PBX to initiate new call even after the remote party of the previous call hangs up etc. This feature requires some new prompts. Currently, only English and German prompts have been updated. Rest of the language prompts are in the works.

Other area we have changed is web interface flexibility. Now you can modify the display of the accounts, trunks, dial plans, call log pages to see what you want to see without too much hassle. We, also, have extended the web page customization to the domain and user level. This can really help some of the multi-domain systems to have different look and feel for each domain/user.

The "proper" caller-ID on outbound calls was always a topic of discussion in the SIP community. In order to work with a wide range of SIP trunk providers, we have introduced a "custom headers" option for Remote Party/Privacy Indication setting on the trunk. The details of this feature is discussed in the wiki page http://wiki.snomone.com/index.php?title=Trunk_Custom_Headers

This new version has plug and play support for the newest line of snom phones - 7xx series.

The download links and release note are available here. All of these are snom ONE versions.

So far so good, looks a lot better.

I have a few questions:

1. The customization of PNP at the extension level is awesome, I assume this means that I can customize the snom_3xx_phone.xml and such for the individual extensions, is this correct?

2. Under registration I see a Video URL box, what does this do? (BTW the MOS graph per extension is awesome)

3. Also under registration, I must have missed this at school, but what does "Add Contact" do here?

4. Under Trunks,I have noticed Force Local Ring Back in the last two upgrades, what does this do?

5. Under Trunks, Permission to monitor Account (Old but I wanted to know), how can a user monitor the trunk? Is this web based or can BLF?

Thats what I can see for now, I noticed an HTML issue but can't figure out where it came from. When it happens again I will let you know.

That's exactly the point. Now you can try changes for the PnP on one extension and see how it goes, then copy & paste it to the domain or system level.

2. Under registration I see a Video URL box, what does this do? (BTW the MOS graph per extension is awesome)

That is/was a feature for a project that we are working on in the US office, where we want to be able to see who is at the door. The old way was to make a HTTP request for each frame believe it or not, but it seems that the 8.7 firmware for the phones now support MJPEG so that the feature might already be obsolete.

3. Also under registration, I must have missed this at school, but what does "Add Contact" do here?

This is for devices that don't support registrations. It can be useful to point a call leg always to the same location, e.g. a PSTN gateway.

4. Under Trunks,I have noticed Force Local Ring Back in the last two upgrades, what does this do?

Not 100 % sure about that, but there are still service providers that cannot deal with early media and always expect 180 without SDP.

5. Under Trunks, Permission to monitor Account (Old but I wanted to know), how can a user monitor the trunk? Is this web based or can BLF?

This is not the CO-lines. You can monitor CO-lines.

6. Under Trunks, P-Preferred Identity is broken, now my outbound calls through my carrier are "blocked".

7. When Calling in to the an AA or a hunt group that has an extension that is redirected out, the system keeps trying to make new outbound SIP sessions that eventually bring down the PBX. I tried getting a log but I had to power down the machine which reset it. On the phone that was calling in, the AA would pick up and send to the call group, the extension would ring once then the AA would play again, in a loop.

When I build a test machine and not my working box I will try again :P

One of the big changes was the header prepresentation in the trunk. We simply had to face the fact that there are at least as many "standards" as there are service providers and how they want to use the headers. There is a new wiki page for this: http://wiki.snomone.com/index.php?title=Trunk_Custom_Headers. The new version should give you a trememdeous flexibiity to deal with all kinds of service providers. During the upgrade, the PBX should automatically generate the variable content based on what you selected with the dropdown before; in theory it should be backward compatible, and we know what (sometimes) that means in the IT world.

Keep in mind that you probably have to load new prompts into the system. There are a lot of more options for the cell phone user now, and that requires new prompts.

This is related to the release notes item -

Some vendors, like MS-Lync/OCS sends SDP in 18x response, but they do not play the ringback tone. Ignore the SDP from 18x response and force the local ringback.

In regards to question 2 this is what we needed the video URL for. http://wiki.snomone.com/index.php?title=The_snom_ICU_doorkeeper It is available now in the America's through normal distribution. When someone presses the button on the door phone and is answered on a snom 8xx the video is displayed on the screen.

Kevin can you elaborate - we are trying to get the same functionality but with a different brand of door phone - are you suggesting that 4.5 will be able to automatically show the video upon answering the call from the door phone and if so how does it know when to show video and when not to?

Which brand of door phone is it? In 4.5 in the registration tab on the extension is a video URL field and when the PBX sees an invite from that extension it sends a notify message to whoever picks up the call. That notify message should have the string that the camera supports to render the video. The string comes from that field. i.e. http://IP-Address-Camera/image.bmp or whatever the camera supports. To get the video to show up on the snom phone we tell the phone to grab an image every 200 MS.

Use the Snom or the 2N door phone, they both support the 800 series phones.

The music on hold in the conference is very good addition but I see a small problem. When one person starts the conference, there is music on hold. When another person enters the conference, no music on hold (good). After the 2nd person leaves the conference and there is only one person left, the music on hold doesn't restart. Can this be fixed or was it by design?
