Future use of SIP and ENUM

For the sake of this post, let's assume that at some point every PBXnSIP deployment will be connected to a Static IP address and can or will be resolved at SIP.newco.com

The client will want to be able to accept incoming calls via their normal TDM carrier via POTS, PRI gateways or VIA an ITSP using SIP TRunks, but also would like to accept alternate calls via ext@sip.newco.com or the future using ENUM.

what might be a standard list of requirements to meet this challenge?

ENUM is a long story.

In pbxnsip, inbound calls must run through a trunk that can be used for ENUM. It must not have a outbound proxy, so that any incoming call can be matched. Outbound calls can run through the same trunk, using the enum=yes flag in the replacement pattern. That part is relatively easy.

The challenge is to get listed in the/a ENUM tree and to guarantee QoS. Especially if you have no idea where the call comes from, you might end up with QoS problems on your Internet line.

The idea is nice, bypass all operators and do business calls directly between the businesses. However I am a little bit sceptical that QoS will be the problem. If the internet access provider does not provide QoS you are on your own. If they do so, they can easily also take care about ENUM...

well for the sake of this post, and in an ideal scenario in the future everyone PBXnSIP system is attached to an ISP provider that fully supports QOS and this isn't an issue. So for the sake of following a best practice, what are the must do's to accomplish the goal of business to business calling. Perhaps some links to the state of Enum might help explain the reference to ENUM, Long story..

there are alot of private ENUM's out there with peering networks. I always though it would be fun to setup my own private ENUM just for fun.
