B) Not sure that will work, if you add an asterisk and then a extension. it will act more like a feature code.

can you actually confirm yes or no? i attempted and it wouldn't work,

if you want to also use * to dial a start code, then maybe we can use *# and it will act just as if its another input and times out if nothing else but 8 was entered then it will redirect tot hat destination

customer already ordered professional IVR recordings and it has the "press star to return to the previous menu" and pressing * doesn't do anything

No this will not work. "*" has a hardcoded meaning in the auto attendant. It will be very difficult to change that.
