  1. Hi,

Snom One SOHO running on a Sheeva Plug

    v2011-4.3.0.5012

I notice that the admin/webpage control tab is not present in the SnomONE SOHO GUI.

Occasionally we do like to tweak some of the .xml files for the phones. Is there, (or is there going to be) a simple way to do this on the SOHO platform ? or are we confined to the Linux Command Prompt ?

    Thanks

    Jon

It is under the email tab, I ran into this too.

  2. OK, so we have made the long awaited switch from 3CX and are happily running SNOM One now. We have all SNOM 821 phones deployed, all of which are considered 'external' to the PBX because it is hosted elsewhere. On 3CX we were obviously victims of SIP hacks on earlier releases of their software. With strong passwords, it diminished greatly, in conjunction with new releases. SNOM seems to have security considerations from the ground up. (thank you)

    Some basic questions about security:

    1) When we bind to MAC addresses on the PBX, does that mean absolutely no other devices can register to that extension, even if they hacked through the password? The MAC is the MAC, and that's all ? Right now, all our SNOM phones are 'MAC defined' in the PBX. Is this safest practice available?

    2) We use 8-digit mixed case random passwords. Sufficient?

    3) Limit registrations per extension is set to "1". Right?

    4) The fixed public IP address of our external phones are white-listed. Should we blacklist everyone else on earth? What is the syntax for this?

    5) What else can we do to 'hide' the PBX from things like sipvicious? In playing with a sandbox deployment, I turned logging all the way to maxi-detail. Within 24 hours, that sandbox environment was pounded with sipvicious probes. I assume our production system is getting the same beating.... does the IP blacklist prevent it?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Mac addresses are for plug and play only.

    2. I use 12 digit "mixed case with numbers" passwords.

    3. If you are only going to have one phone per registration, you could do this.

    4. I only white list addresses if they have problems, if you set the access to 5-10 attempts in one second and ban for 7 days, they cannot brute force the extension. The reason I only white list addresses with problems is that most of my external phones are on dynamic IPs. Most brute force attacks that I have seen start at 40-45 registration attempts per second. In my opinion, blacklisting all other addresses is over kill with snomONE. If you blacklist all other IPs you cannot login to the web GUI if you are not on one of your allowed IPs.

5 Don't know on this one, better left for snomONE to answer...sorry.

  3. Hi,

I have one PBX with 10 extensions, all snom 320s with 8.4.31 installed, that has been showing me a MOS graph with all the trunks great but a few spots on the extensions around 2.5. See the attached image. Does this mean that I have an extension acting up or some heavy LAN traffic? The PBX and Phones are on the same LAN. There is a POTS adapter involved, which is the only interface to the outside world, it is also on the same LAN. The PBX version is .4025 running on Ubuntu. Any help or a direction to look in would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  4. There is no IP address listed, so everything has access.

Is there another web server or device that has a web configuration in the DMZ? You may need to change the port on the PBX if it is conflicting with another machine. This may also be conflicting with the router login web server. Its worth a shot until snomOne helps :)

  5. snom ONE Plus has FXO built in the unit. This would be a sangoma PCI fxo.

If getting an ethernet FXO I'll tip the scales to Patton. They work execellent and have excellent support.

I did a community poll a while back and patton got easy win:

    Audiocodes is not shabby either.

    Thanks for your feedback!

I was just getting some ideas for the companies I deal with that may not have a big enough budget for the snomONE PLUS but may have a budget for a snomONE SOHO and a Gateway. It may be a good way to kick start them into a IPPBX instead of them buying multiple 4 line phones. I prefer native SIP over converted analog but most of my customers here are locked into a contract still.

  6. Hey guys,

I have been using Grandstream FXO adapters with my snomONE installs and they don't seem to work the best, especially with DTMF. I am looking towards Patoon or Audiocodes. Has anyone had good experience with these adapters? These installs are for the customers that fall under the budget of a snomONE plus.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  7. There is a ticket opened in this area - call pickup / hold + retrieve. We will let you know once it is fixed.

I have noticed this with call parking also, when it comes back off of call parking it has 85xxx instead of the caller ID. I don't know if this is part of that ticket.

  8. I have been working with my Grandstream 4104 GXO gateway with this type of situation. I setup a dial plan of 9 which dials the POTS adapter and set the pots adapter for dialing out manually. It actually works pretty decent with the exception that you can't choose the port on the FXO, it just picks up an available port. Yes there would not be a back button to cancel a digit in this situation as you have live dial tone.

As a note with the grandstream adapter, I have been able to successfully route incoming ports to different extensions based upon what port they dial in on.

  9. OK,

I have an admission in that I simply don't read as much as needed prior to new products and doing so, wasting some time.

Some years ago a product came with a sheet that said "If you don't read manuals and quick start guides at leasr read this!"

Based on this FXO installation I would begin with the following tips.

    1. Assume this system is not 100% configured from the box.

    2. (If you do not successfully configure the Sangoma FXO board, the GATEWAY will not start) HINT, HINT, HINT See hint 4

    3. Don't use Internet Explorer 8.0, (The Sangoma config web pages don't display)

    4. You must perform the Sangoma Configuration "Quick Wizard" Note Expand your web browser, the Next button is in the far lower right Corner.

    5. Always performline calibration tests. (this improves the echo cancellation and CPC signal handling)

I also think an adendum about the Sangoma card and all associated utilities would be a big plus with each unit.

Things I don't like. If you choose to wall mount the Chassis with the enclosed brackets, you are forced to removed it from the wall if you wish to remove the cover. (It would be nice if the chassis stayed.)

    I hope this helps someone

Thank you, I am looking to purchase one for a new customer and that will help a lot!

  10. It is possible that the call is going to the extension's voicemail.

Check your ring timeout on the domain vs the hunt group, an extension may be picking up before the hunt group is done ringing if the domain settings are less than the hunt group.

  11. I have SLA running on the newest version of snomONE on linux.

I have noticed with SLA (shared line appearance) on the snom 320 that if you do not put a call on hold with the hold button, but you choose another line button and dial an extension or outside number, it activates a third BLF light that doesn't go away unless you click it. Could this be a setup issue with me or is this a known bug?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Edit: the snom 320 firmware is the latest and greatest :)

  12. I still have the old pbxnsip PAC for windows, is there any chance there will be a snomONE branded PAC or a functional WAC?

Also, in the next version of the PAC or WAC will we be able to see the Park Orbits?

  13. Did you try putting these cell phone numbers in the hunt group stages directly?

No I did not put them in the hunt group stages directly. If this works, it would still be to much of a hassle for them to log in and change it at the current point. They are still trying to get used to pooled line groups and parking vs SLA. I tried SLA and it worked but any time the receptionist would put a line on hold the phone would still have dial tone on the speaker waiting for her to do something.

I guess it goes back to my topic that I failed to put in the body of my last post, to punch *72 through to the PSTN, I believe it is \*72 in the dial plan pattern and sip:\*72@\d;user=phone in the replacement, is this correct?

Another off topic item is where can I get the full syntax for auto provisioning the snom phone? I am trying to get the the CID to only display number, not name.

    Thank you,

    Steve

  14. I just did an install for a customer where they have seven PSTN lines and they want to be able to forward their main incoming line at night to 1 of 9 different cell phones when they leave the office. My delima:

    1. All the extensions are in a hunt group, if I forward one to a cell phone after hours through the phone, it doesn't forward out.

    2. I can ring a cell phone simultaneously for an extension but this would ring all the time. Since the person on call could be different depending on the day, we don't want all the cell phones to ring simultaneously.

Is there a way to easily change the forward number on a hunt group or be able to forward the phone when in a hunt group?

  15. ICMP snooping on many managed switches will Kill M/C, PNP GATEWAY services on residential routers will kill PNP...

There are many tools available to test M/C and U/C PNP on snom must use port 80 and MC uses 224.0.1.75

If you are in the cisco world, this will get you started

Thank you everyone for the replys, I disabled TLS on this system for now and will play with it on my own system.

  16. I have a couple questions on Multicast and paging:

    I am using snomONE 2011-4.2.0.3981 and a snom 320 with 8.4.31 firmware

    1. I have set the multicast IPand port under the ports tab but the phones don't receive it. Do I need to manually change the config file for this?

    2. Is multicast paging supported under TLS, I can't seem to get it to work unless it is under TCP.

    3. If I use unicast, the paging extension calls my extension also. After I am done paging the phone still rings (from the paging extension) until I pick up the extension. Is there a setting I can change to remedy this problem if I use unicast?

    Thanks guys!

  17. Hi,

Recently I installed snomONE on Windows 7 64 Bit, everything has been going great unless the computer is rebooted or the internet connection is reset. Once the computer has reboot or the internet connection reset, the trunk only comes back up for outgoing calls, not incoming. When I manually hit register, everything is great. Any ideas on what could be wrong? One thing to note is it is double NAT.

    Thanks!

    Steve
