Video Conferencing

We experimented with that already some time ago. It all comes down to a URL, and then when the user clicks on it it takes her to the jitsi server. IMHO that is not a huge productivity tool, but if makes the clients happy, maybe we should just add a setting where the operators can put the base URL for their jitsi server and the apps offer the links.

Adding settings where the users can add the base url for their video server will be great , it gives the client the impression of having the collaboration tool in one platform. we currently have our own Jitsi server  fully customized for client registration and  scheduling from our website, but if we can pass the URL of the server into Vodia apps and open  a separate browser when clicked this would be great.

Even the current 1:1 video in apps settings has never worked for us !

any road map for this?  There are a number of audio/video PBX options we need to compete with...

What is in the pipeline is that when you eat to switch to a video conference, there'll be a popup where you can enter or just confirm the email addresses of the participants which will then receive the URL for the conference. We might also prompt for cell phone numbers if SMS was set up on the PBX. Then everyone has to click on the link and get into the conference.

Even VitalPBX offers video with multi Tennant and cheaper compared to Vodia. So what’s the strategic advantage of Vodia Pbx ?

This has prompted me to look at VitalPBX, they seem to integrate Jitsi in their platform... Is there any roadmap for video conferencing and Vodia?

As for video conferencing, it mostly comes with email. Microsoft Office 365 and Google G-Suite cover a huge part of the market, and it comes with video conferencing. There are niches where that is not possible or their solution does not fit. This is the area where Zoom, WebEx and others are filling gaps. Then what is left over from that market is getting really special. Out of that remaining piece of the market, Jitsi is absolutely an option. You can search for "Jitsi hosting" on how to get videoconferencing service if all the other options are not for you. In order to compete in this market, Vodia would have to deliver true miracles to offer a better solution and there would be very little room to generate any meaningful revenue.

Video calls are a different topic. As the work from home topic evolves, we do see more and more demands for internal calls with video. We don't want to get into the discussion of how transparent work from home needs to be, but we do see the demand for a tool that makes it possible. The point about internal calls is that there is no scheduling necessary, it's just picking up the handset and dial, hold the call, and transfer it if you have to. We have some internal video calling capabilities already, but we need to take this to the next level where all internal calls from apps and VoIP phones can have a video stream. Call recording is still a necessity, though we are trying to understand in what format we can deliver video call recordings in a meaningful way.

... filling the gaps as PBX options as well..

as far as connecting jitsi-meet to Vodia, jigasi seems to connect ok to Vodia as an extension - the idea being it can be called and also call out.  However, in my very short time setting this up .. when I ring it I get a busy here.

Anyone done any configurations between Jitsi and Vodia?

I had it working once when I last played with it, but I ended up using Twilio directly for numbers as I wanted the ability for dial in with pin codes to join the rooms etc, and could not find a solution that worked directly with pbx for that functionality.

They also all have phone system offerings which then should put integration side of the PBX with 3rd party VC the next most important part, once you start letting users leave the eco system you then run the risk of them being lost to all-in-one offers. Granted they might not do phone systems as good, but the end users don't really end up looking and caring about that. Or you have to put in a lot of effort educating on potential pit falls they never considered.

It's why I build my own jitsi instance and just offered it as an easy-to-use freebie it would be the best bet option for the PBX to integrate with as it works well and easy to self-host.

we had to create a free Jitsi link for our clients but spent extra development efforts to allow booking, registration etc in WordPress, the challenge is this is still a standalone solution. End users wanted an integrated solution like a link inside the phone app or WebRTC portal, hence they abandoned the solution.

I hope the Vodia team listens to this request.

I can get the jitsi SIP registered to Vodia, at the moment can dial into a conference (default one if the host is already there) but not dial out from it.

The inbound call works if it is audio only, if I start as a video call from the desktop app the app keep ringing but jitsi says it has connected...

Hi to all - waiting for Video Conferencing. Vodia is currently working on a  XOP Networks Integration. There will soon be a button in the client to start a Video Conference.

Stay tuned on that topic - we will need some beta testers
