BLF keys stop working

Hi,

We have a problem with the keys on the snom phones. Occasionally the users report that they stop working. Users report the BLF keys are "Dead".

A phone restart will not restore them but a system services restart will, although the less disruptive fix is to access the button programming, make one change, save and lo and behold, the buttons will be working again !

7xx phones (on 8.7.3.7) and 3xx phones ( on 8.4.35) are all victims of this fault.

It was especially bad using 4.5.1050/1075, but i've just had it reappear on one site that is using 4.5.1090 as well.

Both Soho's and Win 32 platforms are affected.

Any ideas ?

We have this intermittently as well. have not been able to get enough diag info to log a fault.

When it happens to us, the buttons are still "mapped" on the phone (GUI) as well as the SnonONE GUI, but presing the button does nothing at all. Stop and start of the SnomONE (or PBXnSIP service)or update of the buttons on the SnomONE GUI..

I updated a site to Version: 4.5.0.1090 Epsilon Geminids (Win64) 2 weeks ago and they had it yesterday.

What are these keys programmed to? We had (actually years ago) problems when the shared lines got stuck and would not come back after a minute or so. A reboot of the phone should actually solve the problem as well, as it should re-program all buttons again. Are you using PnP for the phone?

What are these keys programmed to?

Various, BLF (speeddial/Monitor/pickup), Park Orbits, Paging

No shared lines on the system(s)

A reboot of the phone should actually solve the problem as well, as it should re-program all buttons again.

As above, a phone reboot doesn't solve the problem, but a change to button programming and a save will bring the buttons back to life.

Are you using PnP for the phone?

Yes

Here is a log file from a 320 that presented with this fault a couple of days ago.

There are 3 logs here.

Caller tries to transfer a call using the "Dead" BLF keys Result = Unsuccessful

Caller tries to transfer a call by dialling extn number Result = Successful

Caller tries to transfer a call using BLF keys after Keymap modified on Snom Result = Successful

Phone was not rebooted, only the Keyplan in the Snom was modified and saved (One of the Park Orbits accounts was renumbered, saved, then changed back to the original setting. Changing any key allocation will achieve the same result)

This fault is presenting regularly from many of our sites. As previously stated, Snom v4.5.0.1050/1075/1090 are affected, Snom 320/720/760 phones on 8.4.35/8.3.7.3 are affected (don't know about 8.3.7.10 as i only have about 15 phones using this release so far), Win 32/Win 64 and Snom SoHo hardware all show this fault.

I guess a followup is in order here.

Changing the 720/760's to firmware version 8.7.3.15 has helped immensely but is not a 100% cure. The buttons still go to sleep occasionally.

320's (on 8.7.3.14 or 15) with a DSS console are the most troublesome, but again not anywhere as frequently as before. However, a receptionist's console that won't allow transfer by button keys usually generates a pretty urgent service request !

Has this issue been resolved?

Am having exact same is issue on Snom One 4.5.1090 (OS X) using snom 760 handsets using 8.7.3.19 firmware.

The buttons just go dead often.

If fixed on a later PBX release or handset firmware please advise.

I will advise client to upgrade to a newer PBX release if needed.

A factor in this is also the firmware for the phones. For 7xx series, the latest release 8.7.3.19 is from November 2011; for the other phones we recommend 8.4.35. Hopefully we will get a firmware update for the phones that fixes a couple of issued found in the mean time.
